Usually when Carter wakes up in the morning, his door is latched close and he can barely open it and stand there and yell for someone to come get him. This morning we woke up earlier than he did, so we unlatched his door to see what he would do.

So when Carter finally woke up, we watched him walk to the door, open it completely and stand there in the doorway for a minute before deciding to come downstairs all on his own. We were sitting at the kitchen table when he came around the staircase with a big grin on his face. It was like he discovered a whole new freedom.

This feels like a huge milestone – we weren’t watching him like a hawk coming down the stairs and we let him make the decision on what he wanted to do. I can’t believe that he is moving so quickly out of the early toddler stages into more "kid” stages!
