Today is my mom’s birthday. She’s twenty two-ish again … and again … and again. We talked today that she is going to start celebrating her birthdays by aging backwards this year and I think that is a fantastic idea.
I don’t often write about my mom, but she is probably the single most influential person in my entire life. Of course I am married now and my husband is right there with her, but she has longevity on her side, where he has only known me a fraction of the amount of time. I still talk to her every day, multiple times a day sometimes. Especially if there is a threat of snow, lol (we always compare temperatures at our houses during the winter).
My mom is the mom everyone wished they had. She is always supportive, even when she may not like what you are doing. A classic example here is my hair – I tend to go blonde in the spring/summer months and dark in the winter. When I was in my 20s I asked her how she liked my dark hair, she responded with, “Oh, it’s okay” as sweetly as she could. She really hated it and this phrase became one we would go to over and over again when one of us didn’t really like something, but wanted to be supportive anyway.
She is also one of the kindest people I have ever met. She would be mortified if she ever hurt someone’s feelings, she worries that she may have come across wrong in conversations with people, she is just kind. As a child, she always guided my brothers and I along by using this kindness and we are better people for it. As a parent now, I wish I had her patience and approach. Every day I try my hardest to be as good as a parent as she was to me.
I could go on and on and on about how wonderful my mom is, how much I respect and love her, but most of all, I am just thankful she is in my life and she is my mom and my best girlfriend. Love you!

This is a photo of my mom and I three summers ago when Carter was a baby. It was the fourth of July and we were celebrating our friend Chris and Chad’s wedding in Monterey, California.

Precious post! Your mom sounds like a lovely woman and you’re lovely for honoring her.
