      Photo Details:
Exposure time 1/200 sec, Aperture f/8 ISO 400, Focal Length 16mm, Canon EF 16-35mm F/2.8L

      Why This Photo:
To explain the title, we haven’t seen the sun in quite some time. And blue sky! What the heck is that? Oh, and a working waterfall? Even better. I chose this photo because it makes me think that maybe, just maybe, Spring might make an appearance. Maybe. Not getting my hopes up. Plus I love how this showcases one side of our yard.

      Challenges/Lessons Learned:
Balancing the sun and shadows to get a decent exposure. It’s been so long since I have had to do that, haha. I got what I thought was a good balance between and then tightened up the look in Lightroom afterwards.

      Bonus Shot:
My blood, sweat, and tears went into getting the pond emptied out, then pressure washed, then drained again, then shop-vacc’d, all to find out our pump was dead. Luckily our pump had a two year warranty. Except it is voided if you mess with the power cord. When we pulled the pump out, we found out that the person who installed it spliced the power cord. No wonder our GFI trips when it gets really wet out. And oh, by the way, we are now out $500 because the guy didn’t ask if we wanted it spliced or just run another 3 feet to an outlet. Not. Happy.

In the end, I got a new pump that was more powerful, but less expensive, and we got it installed. We now have Niagara Falls in our backyard and it is LOVELY. We cut back a bunch of the overgrowing foliage this winter and you can actually see the top pond and the stream rushing through. I am loving it and can’t wait until it is warm enough to start enjoying it outside versus from my kitchen window.
