I am a soccer player. I have been my whole life. Since I was four or five I have played this sport. And I still do.
My nephew is a soccer player and he has played his whole life. And now he is playing in high school for Seattle Prep. I haven’t been able to make as many games as I want to (of course I want to make them all). And this week we dropped everything because his team was competing in the play offs to qualify for State.
Chase recently moved from forward to defense. Tonight was the first night I watched him play as a defender. His athleticism, his grace, all his natural ability shone through. He is a good forward, but he is a stellar defender. It was amazing to watch him anticipate the play, channel his opponent so they could not create anything, and he had a tenaciousness for getting to the ball. I loved every. single. minute. watching him play this game. And my heart swelled with pride at what he was able to accomplish. Sadly Seattle Prep lost in a shoot out (they are still in the running for state, they just have to win their match tonight). I will call out that Prep was in the lead 2-1 and Chase was subbed out for the last five minutes or so of the game. The goal that tied the score came in the last two minutes.
Here are some photos of him in action – Chase is in blue this time … number nine!
